Sandy Support Group for Children

10.07.14

The Visitation Relief Center holds a Support Group for Kids every Wednesday from 4pm-6pm.  This group is run by our very own Angela Grillo, and is aimed at helping children cope with their feelings on Hurricane Sandy, and deal with all the stresses and hardships that come along with a disaster like this.

The Sandy Support Group for Children at the Visitation Relief Center was featured in a segment that aired on NJTV News.  To view this segment, click here.

Back to School!

08.26.14

The Visitation Relief Center just received a back to school donation delivered by Amy Pennenga, the Disaster Response Coordinator for Lutheran Social Ministries of NJ.  Every year, they collect backpacks for students of all ages, from Kindergarten through high school.  They separate them according to the needs of the students.  The primary backpacks are filled with basic supplies, such as a notebook, a folder, a pencil case with writing utensils, and a box of crayons.  Those are geared more towards the younger students.  The secondary backpacks, geared towards the older students, are a bit heavier than the primary ones.  They contain a number of notebooks, multiple folders, writing utensils, calculators, and other items pertinent to high school students.  This year and last they collected more than they could use, so they graciously brought their extras over here to the VRC so we could disperse them amongst our families in need.  We have 150 backpacks filled with supplies for those in need. The Visitation Relief Center, in coordination with Lutheran Social Ministries of NJ wishes everyone a happy and healthy school year!backpacks backpacks.jpeg2 backpacks.jpeg3 backpacks.jpeg4 backpacks.jpeg5 backpacks.jpeg6

Save Barnegat Bay’s Rally for the Bay

07.22.14

Recently, The Visitation Relief Center was featured in an article about a rally held at Trader’s Cove by Save Barnegat Bay.  To read more on this article, click here.

“The Visitation Relief Center, a Brick-based organization that helps people affected by the storm, has a pocket of volunteers called its Eco Warriors. They have helped pull about 10,000 cubic yards of storm debris from the bay’s wetlands and surrounding forests.”
